rebellion lies;

Growing up in a small town as I did in York, you become acquainted with a whole host of local bands, some memorable, others not so much. I was recently re-introduced to the beautiful and haunting voice of Benjamin Leftwich by my friend Emma. His cover of one of my favorite songs, Rebellion Lies by Arcade Fire, is absolutely gorgeous, and his own song, Pictures, is well worth a listen and can be found on youtube with a fantastic video accompaniment. Listen out for him on Radio One, and I highly recommend buying his album.

accidental findings;

The other night, one of my closest friends Nicola Semple and I were discussing all things girly, and we both admitted to having a "wedding folder" saved on our computer. Now this is nowhere near as sad or as tragic as it sounds, so boys no need to run a mile. Mine contains sweet pictures I have stumbled upon across the internet, little gems that make me smile, and give me inspiration and a belief that romance still exists. It's partly has a lot to do with the fact that many of my friends seem to be growing up and getting married and having little ones. Though it is mainly to do with me saving every little sweet thing I find on my internet adventures. I thought it only right that I share some of what I have come across;

As the majority is accidental finds, please contact me if you wish to be credited.

colour my life with the chaos of trouble;

When my mother recently decided to finally decorate my bedroom, I was so very excited to get planning and creating
as my head is full to the brim with ideas for my perfect room.  I had already picked my furniture, as my mother and I had accidently stumbled upon a sweet little furniture shop in Otley, on our annual trip over to Skipton a weekend or so ago. I have opted for  a gorgeous wardrobe, a book case, and a beautiful dressing table with a mirror, all in a distressed white colour, hand made and delivered free, which is pretty sweet of the shop owner.I had initially thought,
Cath Kidston wallpaper, as I am
absolutely obsessed with her beautiful prints; the York shop is my idea of heaven  and the faux-rooms they have recreated are pretty much my dream home.

Now, I absolutely adore Cath Kidston, and if I could I would own absolutely everything in the shop (enter my rich knight in shining armor), but the wallpaper is £22 a roll, and though my room is not huge, it would
need around 5 rolls a wall, which would work out at a phenomenal amount, my mother has agreed to decorate one wall in the wallpaper as a sort of feature wall but even so, that works out at well over £100, eek! I felt this a little steep, and decided to think up a suitable, yet chic alternative.
After having recently watched 500 Days of Summer, a comment my brother made about me stuck in my head; "You're Summer, that is most definitely you're apartment when you leave home."  I decided to re-watch the film for some much needed inspiration.

This beautiful Toile wallpaper appears in every room of Summer's wonderfully chic apartment, and I absolutely adore it.
I decided to do some price checks online, and see how expensive it would be, initially all I came across was ridiculous prices of between £25 and £70 per roll; I know, how insane; though, with a little research I had found a
gorgeous version of this paper, for a miniscule £8.99 a roll on sale, which makes for one extremely chuffed Alexa.

If you would like details on where to buy yourself some of this amazingly cheap wallpaper, leave me a comment.
Another amazing find I just had to share with you, is my discovery of this fantastic website, the natural curtain company
who allow you to pick out up to six samples of their fabrics online and they will then send them to you absolutely free, and if you fill in a short questionnaire they will give you £5 off your next purchase, just lovely.
I will of course be supplying you with wonderful pictures of my finished bedroom as soon as it's completed.

christmas and resolutions;

My christmas this year was quite a strange one, and definitely not what I have been used to, though that is not to say it wasn't a lovely one. My papabear died earlier this year quite unexpectedly so it was our first Christmas without him; which left my mother, brother and myself. We had a fantastic distraction in my friend Lee, who we invited to share Christmas with us, and it was lovely to have four people in the house as usual. I don't know about you, but I was well and truly spoilt this
year, and got some beautiful gifts. These are just a few of my favourites;

pictures: a) milk duds and sweethearts.    b) urban outfitters satchel.
c) ceramic bird jewellary holder.
d) and f) a tiny clay bunny - my mothers little prank as i have been nagging her for a pet bunny for the past six months.
e) lilac fairy lights.   f) spirited away and all about my mother dvd's.
g) a gorgeous scented candle.   h) a lovely teapot (and matching teacups).
i) hummingbird bakery notebook.   j) whittards yummy fruit tea's.
k) absolutely gorgeous peter pan collar dress by renew at urban outfitters.

I hope you were all as lucky as I have been. I hope you all have a lovely New Years Eve too.  I am very excited for 2011 and all the wonderful new things to come. I don't have many resolutions really, as I feel my twenty two before twenty three list will be challenge enough, but the six I have decided upon are;

one. put more effort into my degree
two. learn to be more tolerant
three. say "yes" to more things
four. do more good deeds for others
five. stop being so frivialnt with my money
six. TRAVEL more

So all that is left for me to say is, Happy New Year my lovelies, see you in 2011!
